Contemporary Country Kitchen

Believe it or not, this kitchen began with dark cherry cabinetry, black granite countertops, and an island painted black. The homeowners reached out to Wysteria Design when they were unsure whether to relocate the refrigerator and whether to remove their existing custom bench seating.

After evaluating the space, functionality, and budget, we determined that the existing layout could work beautifully with the right updates. Rather than investing in a major reconfiguration, we focused on impactful finishes, including Calacatta Venice quartz countertops with a matching backsplash. The subtle gray veining flows seamlessly from the countertops up the backsplash, creating a brighter, more open feel.

The homeowners were also willing to take a few design risks, including painting the beadboard ceiling a soft blue and giving the island a deeper blue finish. Custom upholstered bench cushions in a navy floral print, layered with colorful and patterned pillows, add warmth, personality, and comfort to the space.

The result is a fresh, inviting take on the contemporary country kitchen—proof that thoughtful design and strategic updates can completely transform an existing space.
